The boar-headed goddess or Varahi Devi finds mention in numerous texts like the Devi Mahatyam, the Vamana Purana, Markandeya Purana, Matsya Purana, the Lalitha Sahasranama, and many more. She is the shakti (feminine energy) of Varaha, the boar avatar of the god Vishnu.

The Lalita Sahasranama which is a collection of 1,000 names of the Divine Mother, calls Varahi the destroyer of demon Visukaran. She is also the Divine Mother’s commander-in-chief (a.k.a. Daṇḍanāthā Devī) who rides the chariot of light known as Kiricakra.

She has several names. Like Barahi in Nepal, and Dandini in the West of India.
