Did you know that in classical Indian aesthetics, absolute stillness is actually seen as the source of infinite movement?

The philosophy of Spanda, which translates to the “divine throb” or cosmic vibration, argues that pure, inactive awareness (Shiva) is like a silent ocean. But for that ocean to experience itself, it has to ripple. That ripple, that kinetic vibration, is Shakti. What’s wild is how much this echoes modern quantum physics: the idea that at the absolute subatomic foundation of everything, matter arises from fluctuations in a completely silent quantum field. They are fundamentally inseparable. One cannot exist without the other. In this philosophical view, perfect stillness isn’t a dead, static emptiness. It is like a top spinning so incredibly fast that it looks completely still. It is a stillness packed with infinite potential and energy.

That’s what this art is about. This whole piece came to life because a recent full moon (Pournami) fell right on a Monday. To me, Monday is the ultimate day of Shiva’s calm, meditative focus, and Pournami is the zenith of Shakti’s radiant, expressive power. It felt like the perfect temporal alignment of those two metaphysical forces, cutting right through the deep cosmic blue and that textured cadmium red.
